Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty Win Historic Singapore Open Doubles Title

Indian badminton stars Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty made history in Singapore on Sunday, 31 May 2026, by becoming the first Indian pair to win the Singapore Open men's doubles title. The duo fought back from a game down to defeat Indonesia's Fajar Alfian and Muhammad Shohibul Fikri in the final of the BWF Super 750 tournament.

The world No. 4 Indian pair secured a gritty 18-21, 21-17, 21-16 victory over their world No. 3 Indonesian opponents in a match that lasted one hour and 13 minutes.

This victory marked the first title in two years for the reigning Asian Games and Commonwealth Games champions, ending a trophy drought that dated back to their triumph at the Thailand Open in 2024. Since that win, the former world No. 1 pair had reached four finals but finished as runners-up on each occasion.

Before the final, Satwiksairaj and Chirag trailed 1-2 in their head-to-head record against the Indonesian duo, with their most recent defeat occurring at the Malaysia Open quarterfinals in January.

After dropping a closely contested opening game, the Indian pair raised their intensity and dominated the longer rallies to turn the match around. The triumph represents their ninth career World Tour crown and their third Super 750 title.

The championship victory capped a successful week for the Indian pair, who had earlier defeated reigning world champions and top seeds Kim Won Ho and Seo Seung Jae of South Korea in the tournament's semifinals.

Once the final winning point was sealed, both players lay flat on the court in celebration. Satwiksairaj followed with a baby-themed celebration, while Chirag let out a loud roar and leaped onto his partner. The duo then danced on the court to celebrate their return to the top step of the podium.
