PSG Retains Champions League Title With Penalty Shootout Victory Over Arsenal

Paris Saint-Germain retained their Champions League crown on Saturday after defeating Arsenal 4-3 on penalties following a 1-1 draw at the Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary. The victory secured consecutive titles for PSG.

The final in Budapest saw Arsenal take an early advantage. In the sixth minute of the match, Kai Havertz broke away and blasted a shot past PSG goalkeeper Matvey Safonov to make it 1-0.

Following the early setback, the defending champions controlled the tempo of the game. PSG dominated possession as they searched for an equalizing goal.

PSG's efforts were rewarded in the 65th minute when Ousmane Dembélé leveled the score from the penalty spot to make it 1-1.

With the scores level after regulation time, the match proceeded into extra time. This marked the first time in 10 years that a Champions League final went to extra time. However, neither side could break the deadlock during the extra period.

The final was ultimately decided by a penalty shootout. The shootout saw missed opportunities for both teams. Arsenal's Eberechi Eze missed an early spot kick, but David Raya saved a penalty from PSG's Nuno Mendes to let Arsenal stay level.

As the shootout neared its conclusion, Lucas Beraldo scored the last of PSG's spot kicks. The pressure then fell on Arsenal defender Gabriel Magalhaes, who had to convert his penalty to take the shootout into sudden death.

Gabriel failed to find the target, blasting his decisive kick high over the crossbar. The miss sealed the 4-3 shootout win for PSG and triggered celebrations among the PSG players and supporters inside the Puskas Arena.

The match also featured PSG's Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in action against Arsenal's Ben White during the final in Hungary.
