Nearly 6 Lakh Apply for Telangana Family Register Certificates Amid Roll Revision
Nearly six lakh applications have been filed for Family Register Certificates in Telangana as the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls enters a crucial phase, with around 2.8 lakh applications still under process. Data from state authorities indicates that out of approximately 5.97 lakh total applications received for these certificates, roughly 3.15 lakh have been approved and about 2,100 have been rejected so far.
The surge in applications comes as the enumeration phase of the Special Intensive Revision is drawing to a close across the state of Telangana. Figures show that the processing of voter documentation has picked up momentum during this key stage of the revision exercise.
The Family Register Certificate has assumed major significance during the Special Intensive Revision exercise because the document can be produced by voters during official verification. If a voter receives a formal notice from election officials regarding their entry on the electoral rolls, the Family Register—which is prepared by state or local authorities—is among the documents that can be submitted to support their claim.
However, authorities have clarified that while the Family Register Certificate is accepted as part of the documentation during verification, it remains subject to verification by election authorities and is not considered conclusive proof of eligibility on its own.
The Telangana state government originally introduced the Family Register and the Family Register Certificate in July. The entire database is maintained electronically by state authorities using information drawn from the state's Food Security Card database.
The electronic certificate comprehensively records crucial family details. According to official guidelines, these include the names of family members, family relationships, age, date of birth, gender, Aadhaar details, and residential address.
With nearly 2.8 lakh applications currently remaining under process and 3.15 lakh already approved, the processing of Family Register Certificates represents a major administrative effort as Telangana completes the enumeration phase of its electoral roll revision.
