Moosapet woman dies after consuming poison with co-passenger on Sabari Express

A 36-year-old woman from Moosapet died at Gandhi Hospital on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, after she and a male co-passenger allegedly consumed a poisonous substance aboard the Sabari Express as the train approached the Secunderabad railway station.

The deceased passenger was identified by authorities as Gulivendula Neelaveni, a resident of Moosapet and a native of Chapra village, located in the Meliaputti mandal of Srikakulam district. The male co-passenger, identified as 34-year-old Sriram Sirish Kumar, is also a native of the same village.

According to the Government Railway Police (GRP), the duo allegedly consumed an unidentified poisonous substance on July 7, 2026, while traveling in a general coach of Train No. 20630 Sabari Express, which was heading from Coimbatore to Secunderabad.

As the train approached its final destination at the Secunderabad railway station, both Neelaveni and Sirish Kumar lost consciousness. Railway Protection Force (RPF) personnel quickly intervened upon discovering the unconscious passengers and shifted them to Gandhi Hospital in an ambulance for emergency medical treatment.

A preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that Sirish Kumar, who is married and has two children, had allegedly been in a relationship with Neelaveni for the past two months. The police stated that the duo had recently left their native village and were staying together in Coimbatore.

After tracing their location, Sirish Kumar’s wife reportedly traveled to Coimbatore and persuaded them to return to Hyderabad. All of them boarded the Sabari Express together for the return trip. Police investigators suspect that the pair consumed the poison during the journey because they were unable to cope with the humiliation surrounding their relationship.

Neelaveni ultimately succumbed while undergoing treatment on Wednesday, while Sirish Kumar survived and continues to receive medical care at the hospital. Neelaveni is survived by her husband and two sons, who are aged 16 and 18.

Following the death, a complaint was officially lodged by Neelaveni’s brother. Based on this complaint, the GRP registered a case and is currently conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the suspected suicide attempt.
