Yadadri Bhuvanagiri Farmers Block Road and Burn Paddy Sacks Over Procurement Delays

On May 30, 2026, farmers in Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district staged intense protests over delays in paddy procurement, blocking a key road in Namile village and setting fire to paddy sacks in Dubbaka. The demonstrations highlighted widespread frustration with shortages of staff, transport, and storage facilities at local procurement centers.

In Namile village, which is located in the Rajapeta Mandal, farmers organized a road blockade by staging a sit-in at the Namile crossroads. The protestors expressed severe dissatisfaction over the slow pace of the government's procurement operations, citing a prolonged weighing process and abnormal deductions on their produce.

The protesting farmers in Namile stated that their harvested stocks had been sitting at the procurement centers for several weeks. They explained that they had been forced to spend sleepless nights at the centers to protect their grain from unseasonal rains. The farmers expressed deep concern about the potential financial losses they would suffer if unseasonal rains damaged their exposed crops.

According to the protestors, the delays are a direct result of inadequate staffing at the procurement centers, alongside a scarcity of gunny bags and transport vehicles. They alleged that even after their grain is successfully weighed, there are significant delays in transporting the stocks to the mills. This logistical bottleneck has left centers without enough storage space to accommodate fresh arrivals of paddy.

Upon learning of the road blockade, local police and revenue officials rushed to the Namile crossroads. The officials held discussions with the protesting farmers and gave them an assurance that they would bring these urgent issues to the attention of higher officials to speed up the procurement process.

A similar protest occurred in Dubbaka village, located in the Ramannapeta Mandal. In Dubbaka, angry farmers set fire to their own paddy sacks in a fit of rage. The farmers reported that they resorted to this action because the stocks they had brought to the market two months ago remained unpurchased.
