Telangana DGP CV Anand Called For Sweeping Police Reforms To Meet Emerging Challenges

HYDERABAD — Telangana Director General of Police (DGP) CV Anand called for sweeping reforms in the state police force to improve public service delivery, accountability, and discipline during a video conference on Saturday, May 30, 2026.
Speaking to police officers across the state of Telangana, the DGP emphasized that the department must evolve to address modern security issues. He specifically highlighted the need to align policing strategies with emerging challenges, pointing to the rise of cybercrime, drug trafficking, and road safety concerns as key areas requiring immediate attention.
As part of the reform roadmap, Anand announced the planned establishment of a new Traffic Management and Road Safety Bureau. This specialized bureau will focus on managing traffic and improving road safety standards across the state. Furthermore, the DGP outlined plans to strengthen existing women and child protection mechanisms to ensure better safety for vulnerable groups.
In addition to structural changes, the state police force plans to introduce advanced technology platforms. These platforms are intended to modernize and improve daily policing operations. Anand also noted that various specialized units within the police department would be reviewed to ensure they remain relevant and capable of meeting present-day requirements.
To ensure these reforms are implemented effectively at the local level, the DGP issued several directives to district police chiefs. These chiefs have been instructed to conduct regular crime reviews and increase their field inspections. Additionally, district police chiefs must set aside daily grievance hours, allowing members of the public to directly air their concerns and seek assistance.
Addressing internal administrative matters, Anand also provided reassurance to police personnel regarding their welfare. He announced that the government would release pending retirement benefits and outstanding dues in a phased manner, addressing a key welfare concern for the state's police force.
