Pharma City Farmers Protest at Indira Park Demanding Repeal of G.O.Ms. 31

Farmers and agricultural labourers from Rangareddy district staged a dharna at Indira Park in Hyderabad on Saturday, May 30, 2026, demanding the repeal of G.O.Ms. 31. Organized under the Pharma City Vyathireka Porata Samithi, the protesters demanded the withdrawal of projects involving large-scale acquisition of fertile agricultural lands, including the Pharma City, Future City, and Greenfield Expressway projects.
The protesters accused the Congress-led state government of adopting double standards and failing to honour its 2023 Assembly election manifesto promises. Samithi convenor Saraswathi Kavula recalled that ahead of the elections, Congress leaders had extended support to their agitation and promised to scrap the Pharma City project in their Abhaya Hastham manifesto.
Despite stay orders issued by the High Court, the protesters alleged that the government has proceeded with land acquisition and project works. Farmers in Kurmidda village are reportedly being pressured to give up their lands for the proposed Greenfield Expressway.
During the demonstration, the farmers displayed banners depicting Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka, Rythu Commission Chairman M Kodanda Reddy, Panchayat Raj Minister D Seethakka, and Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy. The banners criticized the ministers for being untraceable despite their past opposition to the project.
The farmers noted that they have been conducting a relay hunger strike for the past 60 days, which they said the government has ignored.
Telangana People’s Joint Action Committee leader Kanneganti Ravi alleged that contracts have been awarded to Raghava Constructions and L&T in violation of the court's stay orders. He further claimed that police contingents are being deployed in villages to threaten farmers and forcibly acquire land.
Prof. M Kodandaram, president of the Telangana Jana Samithi and an ally of the Congress, attended the protest to express solidarity. He assured the farmers that he would raise their concerns with the state government and visit the affected villages.
The protesting farmers demanded that deleted land records and ownership details be restored in online databases. They also called for compensation under the Land Acquisition Act of 2013, 120 square yards of housing land for every acre acquired, and rehabilitation measures for affected agricultural labourers.
