Malakpet Waqf land dispute led to murder of advocate Khaja Moizuddin

An ongoing police investigation has revealed that a dispute over a 10,000-square-yard Waqf land parcel in Malakpet, Hyderabad, along with an internal committee rift, led to the murder of advocate Khaja Moizuddin. The advocate was killed on the morning of May 23 when an SUV rammed into him as he was preparing to step into his car.

According to investigators, the conflict began in 2023 when Khaja filed a complaint accusing Mahboob Alam Khan of financial irregularities within the Waqf committee. This complaint led to the dissolution of the existing committee and the subsequent removal of Mahboob from his post when a new committee was established in 2025.

The situation escalated when Khaja was appointed as the treasurer of the newly formed committee. Investigators stated that this development caused Mahboob and his son, Mujahed, to bear a personal grudge against the advocate.

The dispute intensified further over a 10,000-square-yard Waqf land property located in Malakpet, which had been leased to a finance company. While Mahboob opposed the lease and challenged the decision in court, Khaja took up the legal battle in support of the faction favoring the lease. This legal tug-of-war resulted in multiple cases and counter-cases being registered at the local police station, alongside several physical altercations between the rival factions.

Police officials stated that Mahboob and his son allegedly conspired to eliminate Khaja due to frustration over the frequent legal battles and the advocate's persistent interference in their affairs.

To execute the plan, Mujahed allegedly contacted Hasan Ali and Munner, who then brought in an associate named Kishan. At Kishan's request, Mujahed reportedly arranged ₹2 lakh to purchase an SUV. The accused used this vehicle to track and monitor Khaja's daily movements before launching the fatal attack on May 23.

Investigators revealed that the prime conspirators, Mahboob and Mujahed, avoided direct communication with Kishan, the key executor of the plan. Instead, they communicated with him solely through Hasan and Munner.

In the wake of the killing, the family members of the deceased advocate are preparing to submit a formal representation to the police department to request personal security for themselves.
