BRS moves court after police deny permission for Saroornagar Stadium youth meeting

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has approached the court after the Hyderabad Police denied permission for its scheduled 'Yuva Sangrama Sadassu' meeting at the Saroornagar Stadium. The opposition party had planned to host the youth-focused meeting on Saturday, July 18, 2026, but filed a court petition on Friday, July 17, 2026, after local authorities withheld clearance.

Speaking to reporters on Friday, BRS Medchal district president and MLC Shambhipur Raju stated that the party had completed all procedural requirements for the meeting. According to Raju, the BRS had submitted applications to the District Collector, the Sports Authority of Telangana State, and the Commissioner of Police. The party had also paid the prescribed fees and installed CCTV cameras at the venue.

Raju alleged that the Police Commissioner stopped responding to calls from BRS leaders due to pressure from the Chief Minister's Office. He asserted that the youth meeting would proceed despite the administrative hurdles.

Sudheer Reddy stated that the initial application for the event was submitted on June 30. He noted that the police had requested additional information on six separate occasions, all of which the party provided. Despite fulfilling these requests, permission remained withheld as the event date neared.

The BRS leaders accused the ruling Congress-led state government of stifling democratic dissent to avoid questions regarding promises made to unemployed youth and students. They highlighted the government's delay in recruitment-related decisions, withholding of fee reimbursements, and failure to fulfill the election promise of providing two lakh jobs annually.

Sudheer Reddy warned that if the government does not approve the permissions, the party will stage a protest directly at the Saroornagar Stadium.

Other leaders present at the press conference included BRSV State president Gellu Srinivas, senior leaders Gyadari Balamallu and Narsimha Goud, and former BC Commission member Kishore Goud.
