BJP Chief Ramchander Rao Accuses Congress of Diluting BC Quotas

Telangana state BJP president N. Ramchander Rao on Monday launched an attack on the Congress party, accusing it of systematically betraying backward classes through appeasement politics, dilution of reservations, and neglect of welfare institutions. Rao made the remarks while addressing the first state executive meeting of the party's OBC Morcha held at the BJP office in Hyderabad.
Rao stated that the Congress has historically caused grave injustice to backward class communities. He pointed to the introduction of a five per cent reservation for Muslims during former Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy's tenure and their inclusion within the BC category, arguing that this policy eroded the rightful share of genuine BC communities.
Referring to local governance in Hyderabad, Rao raised concerns over outcomes in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation elections. He claimed that in several seats reserved for backward classes, candidates backed by the Majlis and Muslim candidates were elected as corporators under the BC category. He said this was a trend not witnessed earlier and urged the BC community to consider how such developments affect their reservation quota.
Rao alleged that political parties have engaged in minority appeasement solely to secure votes. He contrasted the track record of the Congress with that of the BJP, pointing out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi belongs to the OBC community and has expanded representation and welfare measures for backward classes. He added that currently, no state governed by the Congress has an OBC chief minister.
He further claimed that during the tenure of the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government at the Centre, not a single officer from the OBC community was appointed as a secretary among 102 officers, with only two officers appointed from the Scheduled Tribes.
Turning his focus to the Telangana state administration, Rao questioned the current functioning and funding allocations of the MBC and BC corporations. He demanded that the state government release a White Paper detailing their performance. Concluding his address, Rao urged OBC Morcha workers to reach out to every backward class household across the state to convey the BJP's welfare initiatives.
