Weekend Getaways
8 weekend getaways from Hyderabad for when the city gets too much
Dams, forts, hill drives and temple towns, all close enough to leave Saturday morning and still feel like a real trip.
When you need to log off, these are the escapes that don't need a flight.
Under 3 hours
- Nagarjuna Sagar, one of the world's largest masonry dams, plus the Buddhist island of Nagarjunakonda. Big, dramatic, photogenic.
- Warangal for Kakatiya-era temples and the genuinely stunning Thousand Pillar Temple.
- Vikarabad and Ananthagiri Hills, the closest thing to a hill-station day trip, great for a sunrise drive.
A little further
- Srisailam, a temple town and tiger reserve deep in the Nallamala forest. Forest drives, big views, fewer crowds.
- Bidar in Karnataka, an underrated fort city with jaw-dropping Bahmani-era architecture.
- Pochampally, the handloom village famous for ikat weaves, if you want to actually buy something special.
Leave by 7am on Saturday and you beat both the traffic and the heat. Thank us later.
