Warangal IFS Officer Vishnu Vardhan Reddy Set to Become Indian Consul General in Dubai

Senior Indian Foreign Service officer Dr. E. Vishnu Vardhan Reddy is set to be appointed as India's Consul General in Dubai, according to sources. The diplomat, who hails from Warangal district in Telangana, will achieve a notable milestone if the appointment is formally confirmed, as he will become the very first official from Telangana to head the Indian Consulate in the emirate of Dubai.

Reddy is a 2008-batch Indian Foreign Service officer and an alumnus of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi. Before this prospective diplomatic assignment in the United Arab Emirates, he served on deputation with the Telangana state government. During his time with the state administration, he held the key portfolio of Special Secretary for Investment Promotion and External Engagements.

His administrative and diplomatic footprint in Telangana also includes a term as the Regional Passport Officer in Hyderabad. Throughout his career in foreign service, Reddy has handled diverse diplomatic assignments across multiple continents, having held positions in various nations across Europe and Latin America, in addition to representing the country at the United Nations. Despite his extensive global experience, the upcoming role in Dubai will represent his maiden posting in the Arabian Gulf region.

The appointment comes at a crucial time for bilateral ties and expatriate welfare in the United Arab Emirates. The UAE ranks as India's second largest export destination and third largest trading partner overall, with Dubai serving as an important pillar and part of the nation. The Indian Mission in Dubai is considered to be the busiest diplomatic mission anywhere in the world.

An estimated 40 lakh Indians currently live and work across the United Arab Emirates, with the majority of them concentrated in the emirate of Dubai. A significant portion of this expatriate community hails from Telangana and Kerala, making the consulate's leadership particularly relevant to the Telugu diaspora.
