TPCC Urges CEO to Verify Original Documents Over AI-Generated Fakes in Greater Hyderabad

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday urged Chief Electoral Officer C Sudharshan Reddy to tighten document verification procedures during special intensive revision hearings, citing the use of artificial intelligence to produce counterfeit records within Greater Hyderabad limits.

TPCC Election Commission coordination committee chairman P Rajesh Kumar submitted two formal representations to CEO Sudharshan Reddy outlining the party's concerns. The complaints highlighted issues emerging during hearings related to "No Mapping" and "Anomaly" cases under the ongoing revision process.

According to the first complaint submitted by Rajesh Kumar, field-level reports gathered by the party indicated that some electors appearing for hearings were presenting fraudulent documentation. These submissions allegedly included counterfeit identity cards, address proofs, study certificates, and other supporting papers that had been created or altered using artificial intelligence and digital editing software.

The TPCC noted that conducting rapid scrutiny relying solely on photographs or digital uploads makes such digitally manipulated documents challenging to detect. The party cautioned that accepting these records without rigorous checks could lead to ineligible entries either remaining on the rolls or being newly added to the final electoral rolls.

To counter the issue, the Congress delegation requested the Chief Electoral Officer to issue clear directions to Electoral Registration Officers and Assistant Electoral Registration Officers. The party demanded that officials physically inspect original physical documents in person before accepting them or scanning them into the Booth Level Officer App.
