TGPSC Suspends Two Officers, Files FIR Over Abandoned OMR Sheets Near PVNR Expressway

The Telangana Public Service Commission (TGPSC) has suspended two section officers with immediate effect and filed a First Information Report (FIR) against a contractor after OMR answer sheets were found lying on a roadside near the PVNR Expressway in Hyderabad. The commission took serious action two days after the examination sheets were discovered abandoned in the city.

Taking note of the severe lapse, the commission stated that show-cause notices have also been issued to four officials concerned. In addition to issuing show-cause notices, the commission confirmed that it has officially cancelled the work order granted to the contractor and filed an FIR against the vendor for gross negligence in handling the official materials entrusted to it.

The abandoned records were identified as OMR answer sheets from the Hostel Welfare Officers Recruitment examination conducted in 2018. Clarifying the status of the documents, the commission reiterated that the answer sheets belonged to a recruitment process that had been fully concluded several years ago. The commission further noted that the records had already been identified and earmarked for destruction prior to being discovered on the roadside.

Emphasizing that the integrity of examinations remains intact, the commission stated that the incident has no impact whatsoever on any ongoing or future recruitment process. The public service commission highlighted that it has initiated all necessary measures to ensure strict adherence to prescribed procedures for the proper disposal of records and to prevent the recurrence of such incidents in the future.

The matter came to light on Monday after the 2018 recruitment OMR sheets were spotted near the PVNR Expressway. Initially, the commission did not file a police case immediately, choosing instead to order an internal enquiry into how the official records were handled. Following the enquiry into the negligence, the commission proceeded with the suspension of the two section officers, issued show-cause notices to four officials, cancelled the contractor's work order, and registered the FIR.
