TGPCB Trains 108 Students to Make Clay Ganesh Idols in Sanathnagar

The Telangana Pollution Control Board (TGPCB) hosted an awareness workshop on crafting eco-friendly clay Ganesh idols for 108 students at its head office in Sanathnagar, Hyderabad, on Monday, September 7, 2026. The participating students represented five different schools from across the city.

The initiative, organized under the statewide Eco-Friendly Festival Campaign, was inaugurated by TGPCB Member Secretary G Ravi. The workshop was designed to discourage the use of toxic Plaster of Paris idols and prevent the contamination of local water bodies during festival immersions.

Addressing the participants, G Ravi emphasized that natural clay dissolves safely in water without damaging aquatic ecosystems. He encouraged the students to become environmental advocates in their neighbourhoods by championing sustainable immersion practices among family members and local communities.

Senior board officials attended the session alongside the Member Secretary and presented participation certificates to the students to motivate them as young environmental stewards.

Following the Sanathnagar event, the board announced plans to expand the initiative with workshops across 19 schools in the CURE area starting September 8, targeting nearly 120 additional student participants.

As part of its broader campaign, the TGPCB has already distributed over 3.26 lakh clay idols across Telangana through district collectorates and temples. The board is also running publicity drives using auto campaigns and posters to promote responsible immersion practices throughout the state.
