TG SAFE Suspends 5 Food Outlets, Shuts Down Hostel in Kukatpally
The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) suspended the FSSAI licences of five food establishments and shut down an unlicensed hostel in Kukatpally, Hyderabad, following a special enforcement drive conducted on Wednesday. Authorities ordered the five establishments to immediately halt all business operations after discovering severe hygiene violations, pest infestations, and contaminated food on their premises.
The five units facing licence suspension and operational shutdowns are Manikanta’s Live Space Luxury Women’s Hostel, Sri Balaji Luxury Men’s PG Hostel, Hotel Sitara Grand, Bake Max Foods Private Limited (Brown Bear manufacturing unit), and Mandi King Arabian Restaurant. During inspections, enforcement teams flagged severe issues across these units, including heavy cockroach infestations, pest-infested food supplies, fungal contamination in groundnuts, and expired food items. Officials also documented improperly maintained refrigerators, spoiled vegetables, and broadly unhygienic conditions.
In addition to the suspensions, TG SAFE officials completely shut down GVK New Luxury PG Men’s Hostel in the locality. According to the food safety authority, the hostel was operating without a valid FSSAI licence or registration and was found to be functioning in direct violation of mandatory food safety norms.
The enforcement action was carried out as part of a targeted drive involving 10 teams comprising food safety officers and police personnel. The teams inspected a total of 20 food establishments across Kukatpally, covering restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, and residential hostels. During the operation, officials collected over 20 food samples on suspicion of adulteration for laboratory testing.
TG SAFE announced that improvement notices will be issued to six other establishments in the area. These comprise Sri Mahalaxmi Kendra at Gummadi Foods, KS Bakers, Lakshmi Vengamamba Hostel, Padmavathi Delux Mess, Mehfil Restaurant, and Sree Harsha Delux Mess. Authorities stated that these venues will undergo follow-up inspections to verify compliance with food safety standards before any further steps are determined.
Furthermore, show-cause notices will be issued to four additional outlets: Paradise Food Court, Chaitanya Food Court, Bhulakshmi Mess, and Godavari Mithai. The regulatory authority confirmed that further proceedings are proposed against these four establishments to impose penalties.
