Telangana Links Exam Eligibility To Facial Recognition Attendance For Student Teachers

The Telangana state government has approved a policy linking facial recognition attendance with examination fee payment and exam eligibility for student teachers in Hyderabad. Announced on Saturday, the new system will be implemented in government DIETs and private D.El.Ed. and D.P.S.E. colleges starting from the 2026-27 academic year.

The School Education Department conveyed the decision through an official memo. Along with the memo, the department issued proceedings on Saturday, instructing key officials and college principals to take immediate action to prepare for the implementation.

According to the official order, the state government has "accorded permission" to utilize the attendance data generated through the Facial Recognition Attendance System. Under this mandate, student teachers must have their attendance tracked and verified through the digital system. This tracking will directly determine their eligibility to pay examination fees and sit for their exams.

To facilitate the transition, the Director of Government Examinations has been asked to proceed immediately. The director is required to work in consultation with SCERT, Telangana, to execute the order.

The instructions have been directed to college principals of both government DIETs and private D.El.Ed. and D.P.S.E. colleges to ensure the system is fully operational for the 2026-27 academic year.
