Telangana Government Ready to Repair Medigadda Barrage Pending NDSA Clearance

On Sunday, IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu announced that the Telangana government is prepared to immediately begin repair works at the Medigadda barrage in Karimnagar. The commencement of these repair works is currently pending clearance from the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA).

Speaking to media representatives, the minister stated that the state government is strictly adhering to the recommendations provided by experts. He noted that the entire barrage project is currently under the active supervision of the NDSA.

Sridhar Babu highlighted that top leadership in the state, including Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, and Agriculture Minister Tummala Nageswara Rao, have already made the government's position clear on the matter. The ministers have previously stated that the physical repair works at the site will start as soon as the NDSA gives its official approval.

The minister also addressed recent demands made by the opposition Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) party. The BRS had urged the state government to lift Godavari River water from the Kannepalli pump house.

Responding to the BRS, Sridhar Babu explained that while there were heavy water inflows recently, these lasted for only two days following heavy rains in Maharashtra. He detailed that the water flow has now decreased to about 1,600 cusecs. Because of this low flow, the minister stated that the government will not run pumping operations at the Kannepalli pump house without adequate water availability.

In addition to the barrage repairs, Sridhar Babu spoke about the state's preparedness for El Nino. He announced that the Telangana government will set up district-level command and control centres in every single district. These centres will monitor the local situations and coordinate mitigation measures.
