Telangana DGP CV Anand Hands Appointment Orders to 57 Forensic Science Recruits

Director-General of Police CV Anand distributed appointment orders to 57 newly recruited scientific staff members at the Telangana Forensic Science Laboratory (TGFSL) headquarters in Hyderabad. Speaking at the ceremony, Anand emphasized that forensic science serves as the backbone of successful criminal prosecution and urged the new recruits to align their capabilities with new criminal laws that focus on technology-driven investigations.

Addressing the gathering, Anand stated that meticulously conducted investigations can still fail in court without strong scientific evidence and high-quality forensic reports. He noted that forensic analysis forms the backbone of charge sheets and plays a decisive role during trials, warning that offenders may escape punishment if evidence is not properly collected, analyzed, and presented in court despite thorough police work. He advised the recruits to build a strong understanding of court procedures, evidence handling, and documentation while upholding standards of accuracy and scientific integrity.

Shikha Goel, Principal Secretary of the Home Department and Director of FSL, welcomed the new personnel and briefed them on the functioning, capabilities, and performance of TGFSL. She stated that the laboratory consistently disposes of over 80 per cent of its workload despite manpower constraints, noting that the number of cases handled per forensic expert at TGFSL is among the highest in the country. In 2025, the laboratory disposed of 18,647 cases, achieving an 86 per cent disposal rate while issuing reports for priority and time-bound cases within prescribed timelines.

Goel highlighted that the laboratory is equipped with advanced equipment and specialized capabilities across disciplines such as DNA analysis, computer forensics, narcotics, and toxicology. To address the rising volume of digital evidence and narcotics cases, the laboratory has continued to enhance its capabilities through technology and participation in international collaborative exercises.

The newly inducted scientific manpower includes 35 Ph.D. holders, 12 M.Sc. graduates, 5 M.Tech. graduates, and 3 MCA graduates. Officials stated that their induction will significantly boost TGFSL's overall capacity to provide timely and scientifically reliable forensic services to the criminal justice system.
