Suspected Drug Peddler Rams Car Into Police Team in Abids, Injures Three Officers

A police constable suffered a leg fracture and an inspector was injured on Sunday afternoon after a suspected drug peddler allegedly rammed his car into personnel from the Hyderabad City Police’s Narcotic Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) during a raid on Tilak Road in Abids.

The H-NEW team, led by Inspector Srikanth, was conducting surveillance in the Abids locality around 2 pm following specific information regarding an incoming narcotics transaction. Officers intercepted a car in which the suspect had allegedly arrived to supply the illicit drugs.

According to police officials, the accused, identified as Saif, a resident of Hussaini Alam, initially appeared to bring his vehicle to a stop. However, as the officers approached, he allegedly accelerated, striking the police personnel before fleeing the scene. Constable Mahesh Yadav sustained a fracture to his right leg during the collision, while constable Vamshidhar suffered minor injuries.

Inspector Srikanth pursued the fleeing vehicle toward Afzalgunj. At around 2:30 pm, the accused allegedly rammed another car near the Grand Hotel in Afzalgunj and continued speeding away. When Inspector Srikanth attempted to intercept the vehicle near the Afzalgunj bus stop, Saif allegedly drove directly toward him. The inspector managed to sidestep the vehicle but fell onto the road, sustaining injuries to both of his hands.

Following the incidents, the Abids police registered a case based on a complaint filed by Mahesh, which includes a charge of attempt to murder. The Afzalgunj police registered a separate case based on the complaint filed by Inspector Srikanth.

Sources reported that the accused was subsequently detained by authorities, though official police confirmation remains pending. An investigation into the incident is currently underway. A check on the e-challan portal revealed that the car involved in the incident has pending traffic challans totaling Rs 2,305 for violations including speeding and dangerous driving.
