Sparsh Hospice opens eight-bed neuro-palliative care ward in Khajaguda

Sparsh Hospice in Khajaguda, Hyderabad, launched a dedicated eight-bed Neuro-Palliative Care Ward on 20 July 2026. The new facility is designed to provide affordable, compassionate, and specialized care for patients suffering from advanced neurological disorders who require long-term nursing and palliative support. During the launch, the management of Sparsh Hospice also requested a special exemption for empanelment under the Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) to help patients access these services.

The specialized ward aims to address the needs of patients suffering from chronic neurological illnesses. These conditions include stroke, advanced dementia, Parkinson’s disease, neuropathies, and spinal cord disorders.

Dr. Anitha Kotha, a neurologist, and Dr. SKV Raju, an anaesthesiologist and palliative care specialist, spoke at the launch about the growing need for specialized neuro-palliative care. They noted that the incidence of advanced neurological conditions is increasing, creating a greater demand for dedicated facilities.

The medical experts explained that many patients suffering from these advanced illnesses eventually become completely bedridden. As a result, they require round-the-clock professional nursing care to manage their conditions.

According to the doctors, caring for these patients involves addressing complex challenges such as feeding difficulties, immobility, and pain management. Additionally, preventing pressure sores and ensuring proper symptom control require skilled, multidisciplinary medical care.

The doctors emphasized that providing this level of continuous care at home places an enormous physical, emotional, and financial burden on the families of patients. The new eight-bed ward at Sparsh Hospice is intended to alleviate some of this pressure by offering a structured, supportive environment.

The launch event in Khajaguda was attended by several notable figures, including G Kishan Reddy, senior BJP leader and Union Minister for Mines, Government of India.
