Revanth Reddy Urges Congress to Make Rahul Gandhi PM in 2029 to Fulfil YSR’s Wish

Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday called upon Congress leaders and workers to work with renewed determination to make Rahul Gandhi the Prime Minister in the 2029 Lok Sabha elections, describing it as the fulfilment of late former undivided Andhra Pradesh chief minister Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy’s aspiration.

Revanth Reddy made the remarks while addressing the gathering at the Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy Awards-2026 presentation ceremony, held at the Constitution Club in Delhi. The event was attended by ministers, Congress Members of Parliament, and senior party leaders. During the ceremony, the award was formally conferred on the M.S. Swaminathan Research Foundation.

Recalling his association with YSR and discussing the late leader's political legacy, Revanth Reddy stated that after taking the oath of office for a second term in 2009, YSR had openly expressed his desire to see Rahul Gandhi become the prime minister of India. He noted that the country is currently passing through difficult times and needs a strong leader capable of standing firmly by the people, identifying Rahul Gandhi as that leader.

The Chief Minister appealed to all Congress leaders and workers across the ranks to unite under the leadership of All India Congress Committee president Mallikarjun Kharge and work systematically towards the 2029 general elections.

Turning to development issues, Revanth Reddy highlighted YSR’s contributions to irrigation infrastructure in Telangana. He recalled the initiation of major projects under YSR's administration, including the Pranahita-Chevella project, the Kalwakurthy Lift Irrigation Scheme, and the Srisailam Left Bank Canal tunnel project.

He pointed out that the Pranahita-Chevella and SLBC tunnel initiatives had subsequently stalled after being launched during YSR’s tenure. The Chief Minister declared that his government is resolved to complete these unfinished irrigation projects and dedicate them directly to the people of Telangana.

Revanth Reddy further recalled YSR’s policy decision to provide free electricity to farmers, pointing out that YSR was the first leader to sign that decision. Affirming that his government will carry forward YSR’s ideals in full measure, he urged party leaders and workers to actively advance the late chief minister’s development and welfare agenda.
