Revanth Reddy Opens Rs 620-Crore Chanchalguda-Santoshnagar Steel Flyover

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Thursday inaugurated the 3.32-km Chanchalguda-Santoshnagar steel flyover in Hyderabad, a facility designed to cut commuter travel time by bypassing multiple traffic signals. The newly opened elevated corridor allows motorists to avoid signals at the Central Jail crossroads, Saidabad, and IS Sadan.

The steel flyover begins near the Chanchalguda Printing Press and extends towards Santoshnagar. It features a 2.53-km main viaduct, an up-ramp at Saidabad, a down-ramp at IS Sadan, and an additional 200-metre up-ramp at the IS Sadan junction.

Commuters using the corridor reported immediate improvements in transit times. Saidabad-based autorickshaw driver Md. Shafi noted that travelling across the stretch previously required around 25 minutes due to two intervening junctions, but now takes approximately 10 to 15 minutes. Daily commuter Rashid Siddiqui explained that travelling from Nalgonda crossroads towards Santoshnagar or Owaisi junction previously meant navigating consecutive signals at Central Jail crossroads, Saidabad, and IS Sadan, all of which are bypassed by the new structure.

Other motorists echoed similar observations regarding smoother travel. Regular commuter Md. Iqbal said the elevated route reduces delays at the major intersections, while IS Sadan resident Syed Mohammed noted that those driving toward Santoshnagar and Owaisi Junction will experience fewer interruptions along the way.

The elevated corridor is also expected to benefit personnel working at establishments under the Union Ministry of Defence, including the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Defence Electronics Research Laboratory (DLRL), who travel along the Chanchalguda route to reach their offices.

The Rs 620-crore infrastructure project was initially taken up in 2022 and was completed and opened to traffic in 2026 following delays caused by land acquisition issues and the Covid-19 pandemic. According to traffic data, the corridor recorded a passenger unit count of 70,576 in 2015, a figure projected to increase to 1,93,632 by 2035.
