Overflowing Drains Near Al Quboor Masjid Trouble Panjagutta Residents
Residents of Panjagutta Officers’ Colony in Hyderabad have been contending with persistent drainage overflows for months, leaving the lane near Al Quboor Masjid submerged in dirty water, silt, and sludge.
Locals report that the problem persists on a daily basis regardless of whether the city sees heavy rainfall or dry spells. Stagnant water accumulates continuously along the road, creating daily hazards for people moving through the area.
Pedestrians attempting to navigate the street are forced to walk along the narrow edges of the road, where mud and silt have built up. The slick surface makes walking hazardous and significantly increases the risk of falls.
The stagnant water mixes with street garbage, dust, and waste from nearby mechanic shops, causing the accumulated pools to turn black. Residents say the mixture produces an overpowering stench that has become difficult to bear.
Mohammed Anwar, 70, a longtime resident of the neighbourhood, said periodic municipal cleaning has failed to resolve the civic issue. "I have been living in the locality for a very long time. The officials clean the drains, but there is no permanent fix. The silt washes onto the roads whenever it rains, causing a stench," he said.
Residents also pointed to the improper handling of waste during maintenance work. They alleged that cleaning workers regularly scoop silt out of the drains and leave it piled beside the openings instead of collecting and properly disposing of it, allowing the sludge to wash back onto the street.
