OGH Doctors Remove Razor Blades from 16-Year-Old Boy's Stomach in Hyderabad

Doctors at Osmania General Hospital in Hyderabad have saved the life of a 16-year-old boy after performing an emergency endoscopic procedure to remove razor blade pieces from his stomach. The teenager had ingested multiple blades prior to being rushed to the hospital.

The patient, identified as Md Mujebur Rehman, has a history of mental health illness. According to hospital authorities, he was brought to Osmania General Hospital at around 2 am on Thursday and was immediately admitted to the casualty ward for emergency evaluation.

Medical staff conducted an immediate X-ray examination, which revealed multiple radio-opaque blade pieces lodged inside the boy's stomach. Following the diagnostic imaging results, the casualty medical team promptly referred the case to the hospital's Department of Medical Gastroenterology for urgent intervention.

A specialized gastroenterology team led by Professor and Head Dr. B. Ramesh Kumar carried out a technically challenging, minimally invasive procedure to retrieve the sharp objects. Using gastrointestinal endoscopy, the doctors successfully extracted three pieces of razor blades from the teenager's stomach without causing major complications.

Dr. Ramesh Kumar explained the risks involved in dealing with such sharp foreign bodies during the intervention. "The procedure was challenging because there’s always chances of internal injuries in the form of lacerations and perforations," he noted regarding the operation.

Senior health officials at Osmania General Hospital stated that the medical gastroenterology team possesses vast experience and expertise in the endoscopic retrieval of various types of ingested foreign objects.

Hospital doctors confirmed that the patient experienced an uneventful recovery immediately following the procedure and is currently doing well under medical observation.
