NRAI Amends Constitution to Align With National Sports Governance Act

In a significant move for sports administration, the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) has officially amended its Constitution during a Special General Body Meeting in Bhubaneswar on Saturday. The approved amendments align the shooting federation's governing framework with the statutory provisions of the landmark National Sports Governance Act (NSGA), 2025. With this transition, the NRAI has become one of the pioneering national sports federations in India to adopt these legislative reforms.
The landmark changes were approved unanimously by the General Body. The reforms aim to introduce stronger governance measures, athlete welfare mechanisms, and improved dispute resolution systems, while reinforcing transparency and accountability in sports administration. This alignment sets a clear governance benchmark for the domestic sporting ecosystem.
Under the newly ratified Constitution, formal statutory internal mechanisms will be established within the NRAI structure. These mechanisms include designated committees for athlete welfare, a strict code of ethics, and streamlined internal dispute resolution systems designed to protect the interests of all members.
Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, the president of the NRAI, welcomed the transition. He stated that embracing the regulatory standards of the NSGA 2025 is a progressive step towards building a more robust, accountable, and athlete-centric ecosystem. He added that the unanimous backing from the General Body reflects their collective determination to modernise the administration and ensures that the NRAI remains fully compliant with updated national laws while maintaining its strong international standing.
Pawankumar Singh, the secretary general of the NRAI, also emphasized the benefits of the constitutional reforms. He stated that the federation's main focus will always be to safeguard the interests of its shooters and provide them with a transparent framework to excel. Singh noted that implementing these structural changes proactively ensures that athletes receive uninterrupted operational and developmental support, which in turn strengthens their pathways from the grassroots to the elite international level.
