Nallagandla Sailor Duped of ₹1.10 Crore in Russian Farmland Fraud

Cyberabad Cybercrime police have registered a case after a 46-year-old Merchant Navy sailor residing in Nallagandla was allegedly defrauded of ₹1.10 crore under the pretext of investing in agricultural land in the Russian Federation.

A senior police official confirmed that an advocate approached the Cybercrime police station on behalf of the victim to lodge the case. Investigators are now attempting to contact the sailor directly to record his detailed statement and obtain his version before proceeding further with the probe.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), the complainant alleged that he was introduced to an individual named Narendra Kamal. Kamal presented himself as the director of two entities, United Farming JSC-Russia and Lentils Plus-India, and projected that these companies were involved in acquiring and developing agricultural land in Russia.

The accused assured potential investors of ownership rights, share certificates, documentary proof, and periodic returns generated from agricultural operations. These communications took place through WhatsApp and various other electronic platforms.

Trusting these representations, the Nallagandla resident transferred ₹1.10 crore towards the proposed investment scheme. The accused acknowledged receiving the money and assured the complainant that the formal investment process had commenced. He promised the allotment of shares corresponding to nearly 40 hectares of farmland, assuring returns of ₹27.5 lakh in the first quarter of 2026 and claiming that total profits could eventually reach ₹100 crore.

The complaint stated that despite several months of repeated follow-up, no ownership documents, land registration records, investment agreements, or government approvals were furnished to the sailor. Instead, the accused continued to cite various reasons for delays, including travel to Russia, documentation requirements, business commitments, and health issues, while offering assurances that formalities would be completed shortly.

Based on the advocate's complaint, Cybercrime police registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act. Police stated that investigation efforts are actively underway to verify all allegations once the sailor's direct statement is recorded.
