MRDCL Orders Sewage Study and Accelerates Bridge Work at Mir Alam Tank

Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) Managing Director EV Narasimha Reddy inspected the ongoing construction of the new bridge across Mir Alam Tank and reviewed surrounding lake-cleaning operations on Monday. During the site inspection in Hyderabad, the senior official directed the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) to prepare a comprehensive study on the area's sewage treatment infrastructure to stop the discharge of untreated sewage into the lake.

Narasimha Reddy was accompanied during the inspection by senior officials from both the MRDCL and the HMWSSB. Together, the officials reviewed the physical progress of the bridge construction. The inspection revealed that piling work for the structure is currently over 40 per cent complete, while progress on the pile caps, piers, and pier caps continues to move forward at a steady pace.

To ensure the bridge construction moves faster, the MRDCL Managing Director instructed the project contractor to immediately deploy additional machinery and manpower. The directive aims to accelerate the physical construction works on the bridge structure, including the remaining piling, pile caps, piers, and pier caps across the water body.

In addition to reviewing the bridge work, the senior official directed Water Board officials to prepare a detailed study to optimize the existing sewage conveyance system, the two catchment Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs), and the overall pumping capacity. The study is designed to completely eliminate the discharge of untreated sewage into Mir Alam Tank. This objective will be met by separating stormwater drains from sewage channels and by incorporating planned or ongoing pipeline projects located in both the upstream and downstream areas of the lake.

Alongside the infrastructure review, Narasimha Reddy directed officials to begin lake-cleaning operations immediately in tandem with the bridge construction. A common completion deadline has been established for both the bridge construction and the lake restoration works. Furthermore, according to the official release, the development of the two islands located within Mir Alam Tank will proceed simultaneously to meet the unified timeline.
