MRDCL Officials Inspect Puranapul and Old City Bridges for Restoration Work

Officials from the Musi Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (MRDCL) conducted a comprehensive field review of heritage bridges in Hyderabad's Old City, including the historic Puranapul, on Thursday. The joint inspection was launched to plan for extensive renovation, structural strengthening, and improved road-connectivity works along the Musi corridor, following specific instructions issued by the Chief Minister.

The visiting team was led by MRDCL Managing Director E.V. Narsimha Reddy and Joint Managing Director P. Gouthami. Together with technical experts, the officials reviewed proposals aimed at restoring the old heritage structures, strengthening them physically, and improving daily commuter movement around the Musi river corridor.

During the field visit, the inspection team paid close attention to several key road stretches that currently run below high-flood levels. According to MRDCL, these low-lying road stretches are proposed to be raised to higher elevations. This measure is intended to ensure that vital traffic links in the Old City remain safe and accessible to commuters even during heavy floods.

Technical briefings were provided on-site to the managing directors. The corporation's chief engineer, director of technical affairs, and director of project coordination, along with appointed project consultants, detailed the specific structural repairs required for the bridges. They also discussed hydraulic concerns and the overall corridor-level design needs necessary to support the historic structures.

In addition to technical assessments, the MRDCL officials engaged with local residents living near the Musi corridor. The residents highlighted several pressing issues, including their daily mobility problems, concerns regarding the preservation of the area's heritage, and the recurring risks associated with seasonal flooding.

The corporation stated that it will actively incorporate these public inputs, along with their own field observations and the technical assessments, into the final design and execution plan. The MRDCL aims to speed up the work to deliver the restoration and safety upgrades.
