Mohan Bhagwat Calls Gen Z Emotional, Says LGBTQ+ Community Belongs in Society

Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Sarsanghchalak Mohan Bhagwat addressed an event in Hyderabad on Sunday, describing the younger generation known as Gen Z as emotional and adaptable, while emphasizing that the LGBTQ+ community is an integral part of Indian society and should not be ostracised.

Speaking about youth behavior, Bhagwat cautioned that members of Gen Z often do not think with a calm mind. He remarked that Gen Z is good, adaptable, and emotional by nature, explaining that what is visibly authentic appeals to them when they are in touch with it.

His remarks on youth came in the backdrop of weeks of student protests led by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP). The demonstrations drew national attention after activist Sonam Wangchuk began a hunger strike at Jantar Mantar. Tensions had escalated during the 'Sansad Chalo' march on July 20, when police reportedly used tear gas and carried out lathi charges to disperse crowds advancing toward Parliament.

During his address, Bhagwat also spoke at length regarding the LGBTQ+ community, stating that such tendencies are present in society and exist worldwide. He noted that some of these tendencies are innate and determined by nature itself, while others are acquired later due to mindset or physical inclinations.

Bhagwat emphasized that Indian tradition has long acknowledged their existence, stating that whether tendencies are curable or not, members of the community are human beings who have every right to live. He added that they are not ostracised from society and that there is a place for them within the vast tapestry of social life.

Highlighting cultural inclusion, Bhagwat mentioned that members of the LGBTQ+ community have their own deities, shrines, and Mahamandaleshwars who participate in the Kumbh Mela. He stated that rather than making unnecessary noise or fanfare, society historically handled these matters quietly to ensure a sympathetic attitude and proper, discreet arrangements for them as integral parts of society.
