Mijo Chacko Kurian Wins Men’s 400m at Indian Athletics Series in Meerut

Kerala international quarter-miler Mijo Chacko Kurian, representing the Air Force, clinched victory in the men’s 400m event at the 15th leg of the Indian Athletics Series held in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, on Wednesday.

Kurian registered a time of 46.89 seconds to secure top honours in the 400m contest, edging past Muhammed Ajmal of the Navy, who finished as the runner-up with a time of 46.90 seconds. Rashid of Uttar Pradesh placed third, crossing the finish line in 47.28 seconds. In addition to his 400m victory, Kurian earned a second-place finish in the men’s 200m race, clocking 21.41 seconds behind Rajasthan's Adesh Garsa, who won in 21.39 seconds. Ruchit Mori representing Reliance finished third in 21.50 seconds.

In the men’s sprint events, Sandeep Singh of Himachal Pradesh took the 100m title in 10.65 seconds, followed by Savin Thingalaya of Reliance in 10.66 seconds and Nikhil Sarjerao Patil of Maharashtra in 10.77 seconds. In middle-distance races, Akhil K.A. of the Navy won the 800m in 1:51.31, ahead of Army's Virender (1:51.84) and Delhi's Aman Ojha (1:51.92). Manpreet of Punjab secured the 1500m title with a time of 3:51.39, beating Prabhjot Singh of Punjab (3:51.76) and Pravin Chaudhari of Maharashtra (3:51.93).

In the men’s field events, Delhi’s Nirbhay Choudhary topped the hammer throw with a mark of 66.47m, while Manoj Kumar of Tamil Nadu won the javelin throw with a best attempt of 77.82m. Rajasthan’s Ramchandra Mali secured first place in the shot put with a 15.91m throw. Madhya Pradesh athlete Aaditya Raghuvanshi won the high jump by clearing 2.10m, and Shaheer Rizvee of Uttar Pradesh took top honours in the triple jump with a distance of 15.13m.

In the women’s section, Priya Mohan of JSW won the 400m in 54.21 seconds, finishing ahead of Rupal of NCOE Trivandrum (54.89s) and Manisha of Haryana (55.36s). Harita Bhadra of Reliance won the 200m in 23.36 seconds, while Avantika Narale of Railway Sports claimed the 100m title in 12.25 seconds. Anjali C. of JSW secured first place in the 100m hurdles in 13.36 seconds.

Other women’s winners included Tanvi Malik of Uttar Pradesh in the 800m (2:12.16), Ruhi Bohra of Delhi in the 1500m (4:38.11), Anushka Yadav of Uttar Pradesh in the hammer throw (64.92m), Rakhi Sangwan of All India Police in the shot put (13.94m), Ishika Singh of Uttar Pradesh in the javelin throw (45.03m), Rimpal Kaur of Punjab in the high jump (1.64m), Ankita Chaudhary of Delhi in the long jump (5.72m), and Meera Shibu of JSW in the triple jump (12.65m).
