Man Arrested for Assaulting Traffic Home Guard in Hyderabad After Helmet Violation
The Nampally police on Tuesday arrested a 28-year-old man for allegedly obstructing, abusing, and assaulting a traffic home guard after the officer photographed him for riding without a helmet. The incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Abids Traffic Police Station on September 7.
According to police officials, Home Guard K Ravinder attached to the Abids Traffic Police Station was on traffic duty alongside WASI Vani Sree and Home Guard Vijay Kumar around 3:30 pm. During the checking drive, Ravinder used an official camera to photograph a two-wheeler rider who was not wearing a helmet.
The Station House Officer of Nampally stated that the motorcyclist, identified as Mohd. Rizwan, a signboard worker from Hyderabad, reacted aggressively after being photographed. Rizwan allegedly took a U-turn, approached the home guard from the wrong side of the road, and proceeded to verbally abuse and physically assault the officer while he was discharging his duties.
Police said Rizwan's wife also joined the confrontation. She allegedly used abusive language toward the personnel while recording the altercation on her mobile phone. Following the confrontation, the couple obstructed the officer further before fleeing the scene together on the two-wheeler.
Based on a complaint lodged by Ravinder, the Nampally police registered a case against the accused under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) as well as applicable provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act. Investigators arrested Rizwan on Tuesday, seized the two-wheeler used during the offence, and produced him before a local court for judicial remand.
Hyderabad City Police Commissioner VC Sajjanar took note of the incident and issued a strict warning against attacks on duty officers. Sajjanar stated that any obstruction, intimidation, or interference with police personnel performing lawful duties would invite strict legal action, while appealing to motorists to follow traffic regulations and cooperate with personnel managing traffic.
