Land Disputes and Pending Approvals Delay Young India Residential Schools in Telangana

The construction of Young India Integrated Residential Schools has been delayed across six assembly constituencies in Telangana, including Chandrayangutta in Hyderabad, due to land-related obstacles, pending administrative clearances, and legal disputes.

The residential school initiative is a flagship project of the Telangana government, which planned to set up integrated campuses across 105 assembly constituencies. While site identification took place in multiple segments, various issues including delays in obtaining no-objection certificates and disputes over land suitability have stalled progress in several areas.

In the Chandrayangutta constituency of Hyderabad, land identified for the school campus is currently awaiting clearance from the Heritage Department. Meanwhile, in Wardhannapet, the proposed site remains pending for formal approval from the Irrigation Department.

Land suitability challenges have also affected execution in other districts. In Mahabubnagar district, land earmarked for the project in Survey Number 867 at Bandameedipally reportedly turned out to be assigned land. In Miryalaguda, the allocated parcel was determined to be unsuitable for the institution, and an alternative site has yet to materialise.

Elsewhere in the state, the project in Narsampet has faced procedural hurdles regarding physical possession. Although title documents were issued following land allotment, the site has not been physically handed over despite the matter being taken up by the district Collector. In Illandu constituency, construction could not take off due to a pending court case related to the allocated land.

Overall, the state government has accorded administrative approval for 85 schools out of the planned 105 constituencies, while permissions for 20 constituencies remain pending. Of the approved projects, tenders were invited for 81 schools, with 78 finalised. Technical evaluations are currently underway for three tenders, and tenders are yet to be called for four locations. Construction has commenced at 64 locations, while mobilisation advances are being processed for contractors at nine other sites.
