KTR Accuses Congress of Favoritism in Awarding Contracts at Indira Park Protest

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao accused the Congress government of failing to fulfill its promises to marginalized communities during a protest at Indira Park in Hyderabad.

Speaking at a meeting organized by the SC, ST, BC, and Minority Contractors Association Joint Action Committee (JAC), Rama Rao alleged favoritism in the distribution of government contracts and demanded the immediate repeal of GOMs 17.

Rama Rao stated that prior to the Assembly elections, the Congress party had announced 13 declarations, six guarantees, and 420 promises. These included the Chevella and Kamareddy declarations, which assured 18 percent reservations for SCs, 12 percent for STs, and 42 percent for BCs in government contracts. However, he alleged that the government failed to provide even "72 paise" of these promised allocations to the weaker sections.

The BRS leader criticized GOMs 17, claiming it was introduced to hand over tenders to corporate entities. He argued that these orders deprived local and small-scale contractors of opportunities to supply essential items, including vegetables, chicken, milk, and bread, to Gurukuls. He vowed that the BRS would continue to protest until GOMs 17 is repealed.

Rama Rao further alleged that state contracts were being selectively awarded to close relatives and associates of ruling politicians. He claimed that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy awarded a Rs. 4,000 crore contract for the Kodangal-Narayanpet Lift Irrigation Scheme to his own associates. He also alleged that contracts worth Rs. 1,300 crore were given to the Chief Minister's brother-in-law, Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy's son, and BJP MP CM Ramesh.

Demanding transparency, Rama Rao called on the state government to release a white paper detailing the funds disbursed to small contractors and the debts incurred by the administration. He asserted that while the Congress government had incurred Rs. 4 lakh crore in debt, it had not allocated a single rupee to contractors from the SC, ST, and BC communities. He promised that when BRS returns to power in 2028, the party would work to groom 50,000 youth from weaker sections to become contractors.
