IMD Forecasts Light Rain and Thundershowers Across Hyderabad Till September 7

The Hyderabad meteorological department on Thursday issued a weather forecast predicting light to moderate rainfall along with thundershowers across parts of Hyderabad and surrounding districts over the next three to four days.

While extensive cloud cover has been observed over multiple locations in the twin cities and neighbouring districts, the India Meteorological Department stated that the chances of heavy to very heavy downpours remain slim. Forecasters attributed the absence of intense downpours to the lack of any major low-pressure weather systems active over the region.

Despite the lack of major systems, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are very likely to occur at multiple locations throughout Hyderabad and other districts across Telangana. The department stated that the moderate showers will be accompanied by strong surface winds reaching speeds between 30 and 40 kmph in isolated pockets.

According to IMD Hyderabad, this weather pattern of light to moderate rainfall combined with windy conditions has been projected to continue till September 7 across the state.

The forecast comes amid an ongoing monsoon deficit for the state. According to data from the IMD Hydromet Division in New Delhi, Telangana recorded 466.6 mm of actual rainfall between June 1 and September 2, compared to the normal expected level of 587.2 mm. This marks a 21 per cent rainfall deficit, placing the meteorological subdivision under the deficient rainfall category for the period.
