Hyderabad Adds Nearly 150 GCCs and 1.5 Lakh Tech Jobs in 20 Months, Says Minister

Telangana IT and Industries Minister D. Sridhar Babu announced that Hyderabad has attracted nearly 150 Global Capability Centres (GCCs) over a span of 20 months, generating more than 1.5 lakh high-value technology jobs. The Minister shared the figures during the opening of a 1.20 lakh square foot GCC by JLL Business Services in the city in early August.

According to real estate consultancy JLL, Hyderabad is on course to become a national powerhouse for GCCs, driven by a deep talent pool, modern infrastructure, and an active business ecosystem. The consultancy reported that Hyderabad commanded 16% of India's total GCC leasing activity between 2024 and mid-2026. Within Hyderabad itself, GCCs accounted for 42% of all commercial office leasing activity.

Unlike traditional third-party back-office operations, GCCs operate as direct, integral divisions of multinational parent companies. In Hyderabad, these centres manage core operations encompassing information technology, research and development, customer support, and intellectual property development, relying increasingly on local technical capabilities rather than simple labour cost arbitrage.

The city's industrial landscape has expanded alongside this office growth, housing major developments in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, electric mobility, data centres, and electronics manufacturing. Hyderabad has also strengthened its aerospace and defence capabilities, anchored by central establishments such as the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL), Research Centre Imarat (RCI), and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC).

In spacetech, local suppliers including Ananth Technologies and MTAR Technologies continue to support ISRO missions, while city-based Skyroot Aerospace became the first private Indian company to launch an orbital-class rocket from Indian soil. Global corporations including Lockheed Martin, GE Aerospace, Collins Aerospace, and Boeing have also established a footprint in the local ecosystem alongside incubator platforms like T-Hub.

Minister Sridhar Babu noted that the combination of strategic institutions, experienced industry personnel, and engineering graduates from premier institutes such as the IITs, IIITs, and BITS provides Hyderabad with a significant advantage in advanced hardware and frontier technology. Future expansion in the sector will be tied to the rollout of the proposed Future City, alongside planned hubs for an AI City, a Space City, and dedicated data centres.
