HMDA Deploys Green Tankers to Supply Treated Water to Secretariat, Begumpet

The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) on Sunday began supplying treated water through designated 'Green Tankers' for gardening and landscaping at the Telangana Secretariat in Hyderabad, replacing approximately 1.5 lakh litres of freshwater daily.

Alongside the Secretariat grounds, the initiative has also been introduced at the Greenlands Guest House in Begumpet, which serves as the official residence of the Telangana Chief Secretary. The transition to treated wastewater at the Begumpet premises replaces another 30,000 litres of freshwater each day.

Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) Managing Director Ashok Reddy formally flagged off the specially designated green water tankers to launch the conservation drive.

According to officials from both the HMWSSB and HMDA, the primary objective of the initiative is to conserve freshwater resources, promote the reuse of treated wastewater, and encourage environmentally responsible practices across public spaces in the city.

A press release noted that the Secretariat's adoption of treated wastewater for landscape maintenance is intended to set an example for other government institutions and public establishments to embrace water recycling and support sustainable urban development.
