Malla Reddy University Gets Notice for Halting Classes for Film Promotion

The Telangana Higher Education Council has issued a formal notice to Malla Reddy Deemed University in Hyderabad after the institution declared an official holiday and postponed scheduled classes and examinations to host a commercial film promotional event.

The university had announced a holiday on October 30, 2026, to accommodate promotional activities for the movie Aadarsha Kutumbam, a project associated with actor Venkatesh and director Trivikram. The Council took serious note of the management's decision to halt routine academic operations and postpone examinations for an entertainment function.

The matter escalated into a major issue across the state after student representatives raised objections. Leaders from the Students' Federation of India (SFI), including State President Rajanikanth, Keerthan, and Mamatha, lodged an official complaint with the Council on Thursday demanding an immediate inquiry and disciplinary action.

Following the complaint, Telangana Higher Education Council Chairperson V. Balakista Reddy confirmed that notices were being served to the university management. The Council has demanded an explanation from the institution detailing why regular educational activities were suspended to facilitate a commercial promotion.

The development comes amid rising concerns regarding campus safety and the conduct of non-academic gatherings. Authorities referenced a recent incident at another college where a student died and several others suffered injuries during a Dandiya programme.

In response to these incidents, senior education authorities have drafted measures to restrict such gatherings. A formal proposal has been submitted to Education Department Secretary Yogita Rana and Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister's Office Sridhar to establish strict regulations for hosting student and external events across universities in the state.
