Heavy Rain Lashes Northern Telangana as Kotapally Records 124.3 mm

Heavy rainfall exceeding 100 mm lashed northern and eastern Telangana districts, while moderate showers hit parts of Hyderabad including Banjara Hills, Serilingampally, and Charminar in the 24 hours leading up to July 28, 2026.

According to data released by the Telangana State Development Planning Society (TSDPS), northern and eastern districts experienced heavy downpours, while Hyderabad and its surrounding areas witnessed steady, moderate rainfall ranging between 15.60 mm and 64.40 mm.

Mancherial district recorded some of the highest rainfall figures in the state. Kotapally in Mancherial topped the list with 124.3 mm of rain, followed closely by Jankapur and Kannepalli with 123 mm, and Tandur with 120.3 mm. Other areas in the district, including Devulawada and Bellampally, received 113.5 mm and 113.0 mm of rainfall respectively.

Several other northern and eastern districts also registered substantial precipitation ranging between 87 mm and 113 mm. Kamanpur in Peddapalli district recorded 109.5 mm of rain, while Venkatapur in Mulugu district logged 104.3 mm. Peddampet in Jayashankar Bhupalpally recorded 96.3 mm, while Kumuram Bheem Asifabad and Bhadradri Kothagudem also witnessed heavy spells.

In the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) zone, Maheshwaram in the Industrial Area Mahankal recorded the highest rainfall at 34.3 mm. Balapur in Mamidipalle recorded 30.8 mm, while Ibrahimpatnam at IDOC Kongarkalan logged 30.5 mm.

In core Hyderabad and the city's IT corridor, rainfall was light to moderate. Banjara Hills at the CMTC Premises recorded 23.8 mm, while Serilingampally, covering Hafeezpet and Madhapur, logged between 21.8 mm and 22.5 mm.

West Maredpally recorded 20.3 mm, while Miyapur and Tirumalagiri registered 19.8 mm. Chandanagar and Musheerabad received between 18.8 mm and 19.0 mm, and Charminar at Sardarmahal recorded 18.0 mm.

The steady precipitation in Hyderabad was accompanied by a cool breeze, bringing weather relief to residents across the city without causing any major disruptions.
