HCLTech Signs MoU with Transport for NSW to Advance AI-Powered SCATS Analytics

In Hyderabad, global technology company HCLTech has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Transport for NSW’s Sydney Coordinated Adaptive Traffic System to explore the advancement of artificial intelligence-powered analytics capabilities for the platform.
Under the partnership, HCLTech will examine integrating multilingual foundation models developed by Sarvam into SCATS. The initiative aims to permit traffic operators, urban planners, and engineers to query and interpret SCATS traffic data using local Indian languages.
The existing SCATS system allows users to interact with traffic, congestion, and geospatial data through natural language queries, alongside comparing traffic insights across designated timeframes.
Originally developed by the New South Wales government in 1975, SCATS has since been implemented in more than 200 cities across over 30 countries worldwide.
Additionally, the collaboration will assess methods to meet local data sovereignty requirements for smart-city infrastructure. This includes evaluating setups that enable cities to run SCATS AI systems on-premises through private-cloud environments.
