Former CBI Director Seeks Fairness For IPS Trainee After Borabanda Suicide Attempt

Former CBI director M. Nageswara Rao has called for equal disciplinary treatment and fairness in the case of IPS probationer Uday Krishna Reddy, who attempted suicide at Motinagar in Borabanda on Monday. Reddy was hospitalized following the registration of a police case on Sunday, which was filed by a female co-trainee at the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) in Hyderabad accusing him of sexual harassment.

On Monday, Reddy attempted suicide at his brother's residence in Motinagar, Borabanda. Relatives immediately rushed him to a hospital in SR Nagar, where he is currently undergoing treatment. His condition is stated to be in danger.

The suicide attempt occurred a day after the police registered a criminal case against Reddy on Sunday. The case, which includes allegations of sexual harassment, posting obscene videos, stalking, and blackmailing, was filed following a complaint by a female IPS co-trainee. Following the complaint, the police had summoned Reddy to appear before the investigation officer.

Prior to his suicide attempt on Monday, Reddy posted a statement on his Instagram handle, asserting that the complaints and propaganda against him were false. He wrote that he had full faith in the law and was confident that justice would prevail.

Weighing in on the matter, former CBI Director M. Nageswara Rao shared his views on the social media platform X, advocating for due process and parity in any disciplinary actions. Rao argued that disciplinary measures should not be one-sided when there are two competing versions of the events. While the female probationer has alleged sexual harassment and assault, Reddy has maintained that their relationship was consensual and that he was falsely implicated.

Highlighting Reddy's career journey from a police constable to an IPS officer, Rao stated that the trainee's instruction should be allowed to continue while the official investigation takes its course. He suggested that either both probationers should face identical disciplinary action for the alleged misconduct, or Reddy's suspension should be revoked pending the final outcome of the inquiry.
