Excise Department Seizes 40 Kg Ganja Worth Rs 20 Lakh in Khammam

The Prohibition and Excise Department seized approximately 40 kilograms of ganja in Khammam district on Monday, July 20, 2026. The seized contraband is estimated to be worth Rs 20 lakh in the market.
During the coordinated operations, which were conducted across three separate cases, the Excise Enforcement team arrested one person. The authorities also confiscated three vehicles used to transport the contraband, including one car and two motorcycles.
Khammam Deputy Commissioner of Excise Somireddy confirmed the details of the operations. He stated that the enforcement team carried out the synchronized raids to intercept the illegal transport of the drugs.
In the first case, the enforcement team intercepted a car carrying 27 kilograms of ganja. The contraband was allegedly being transported from Odisha. The officials arrested Vinay Sarkar, who was found in possession of the illegal haul, and seized the vehicle used in the offence.
In the second operation, the excise sleuths recovered 6.8 kilograms of ganja. The contraband was seized from the possession of an individual identified as Moosa Ravikumar. His motorcycle was also confiscated by the officials.
In the third case, the department seized 6.2 kilograms of ganja from the possession of Velpula Bharat Kumar. The officials also confiscated a second motorcycle used for transporting the drugs.
Deputy Commissioner Somireddy added that three other suspects remain at large. The absconding individuals have been identified as Thalla Dhanaraj and Gaddam Shankar, along with another unnamed suspect. The excise department is currently making efforts to trace and apprehend the remaining accused.
