EAGLE Force Arrests Duo with 12 kg Ganja Bound for Hyderabad on Motorcycle

EAGLE Force personnel and Wyra police have arrested a 21-year-old man with previous narcotics cases in Uppal, along with a 20-year-old woman, for allegedly smuggling 12 kg of marijuana worth an estimated Rs 6 lakh from Odisha to Hyderabad on a motorcycle.

The accused have been identified as Mitra Chaitanya, 21, and Hemalatha, 20, both residents of Peddapalli. According to police reports, Chaitanya had promised to buy Hemalatha an iPhone for her birthday, and the pair allegedly turned to drug peddling in order to raise the money required for the purchase.

Investigators stated that the duo travelled to Pasupulanka in Odisha, where they stayed for approximately five days before securing the contraband. They allegedly bought the 12 kg consignment of marijuana from a supplier identified as Bhagavan Hantal for Rs 16,000, after which they began their return journey towards Hyderabad aboard a Pulsar motorcycle.

Wyra police and EAGLE Force personnel intercepted the suspects during their journey. When the duo allegedly tried to flee the checkpoint, they rammed their motorcycle into a police vehicle, leaving a Sub-Inspector with minor injuries. Police promptly apprehended them and seized the 12 kg of marijuana from their possession.

According to police records, Chaitanya has a history of narcotics offences, with three previous cases related to ganja transportation registered against him at the Uppal, Peddapalli, and Medchal police stations. He was released from jail on April 30, 2026. Prior to the latest trip, his suspicious movements had prompted law enforcement to place him under active surveillance.

Police said Chaitanya had struck a deal to supply the procured marijuana to two individuals, identified as Shashi and Nagur, who are residents of Karimnagar and Peddapalli. Shashi, Nagur, and the Odisha supplier Bhagavan Hantal are currently absconding. An investigation remains underway to track down the absconding suspects and identify any further links in the distribution network.
