Drug Suspect Arrested After Injuring Three Police Officers in Abids

A suspected drug peddler was taken into custody after injuring three police personnel, including an inspector, while attempting to evade arrest during an operation on Tilak Road in Abids on Sunday afternoon. The suspect, identified as Saif, ran over a constable's leg and rammed into police motorcycles before being apprehended near the Afzalgunj bus stop following a chase.

The incident occurred at around 2 pm when a team from the Hyderabad Narcotics Enforcement Wing (H-NEW) laid a trap near a footwear shop on Tilak Road in Abids, acting on specific information regarding drug sales. Officers observed Saif, a resident of Hussaini Alam, arrive at the location in a blue hatchback and hand over a packet to a customer inside the vehicle.

When H-NEW Inspector K Srikanth and his team approached the car and instructed Saif to pull over, the suspect began reversing under the pretext of parking. As constables Mahender Yadav and Vamshidhar moved behind the hatchback to block his exit, Saif reversed the car, running over Mahender’s left foot and causing him to fall. Saif then immediately drove forward over the constable's leg again before fleeing the scene. Constable Vamshidhar sustained a hand injury while attempting to stop the vehicle, and two parked police motorcycles were damaged in the collision.

Constable Mahender suffered a fracture to his left leg and was admitted to a hospital, while Constable Vamshidhar was discharged after receiving outpatient treatment. According to police officials, all injured personnel are out of danger.

Inspector Srikanth and his team pursued the hatchback in a police vehicle toward Afzalgunj. During the chase, Saif collided with a sedan near the Grand Hotel but continued driving. When the police team overtook and blocked his path near the Afzalgunj bus stop, Saif attempted to ram his car into Inspector Srikanth, who fell onto the road while dodging the vehicle, suffering minor injuries.

Senior police officials confirmed that Saif, who has no prior criminal record, was apprehended nearby shortly after the incident and taken into custody for interrogation. H-NEW DCP Vaibhav Gaikwad confirmed that all injured police personnel are safe. The Abids and Afzalgunj police stations have registered separate cases under Section 109 (attempt to murder) and other relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita based on complaints lodged by the officers.
