DGP C.V. Anand Celebrates 50 Years of The Hindu's Hyderabad Printing

Director General of Police C.V. Anand attended the celebrations marking 50 years of printing in Hyderabad by The Hindu as chief guest at the newspaper's office on Thursday, recalling his memories of checking UPSC exam results outside its Begumpet office decades ago.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Anand recalled sitting on the footpath outside the Begumpet office in 1992 alongside other aspirants to check the notice board where the results were displayed. He said that after an anxious search, he discovered he had secured the 147th rank and remained seated on the pavement for some time out of relief. A former cricketer, the DGP noted that he started reading the publication at the age of eight, beginning with sports coverage, and has continued reading it ever since.

The DGP commended the publication's editorial-page articles, in-depth reports, accuracy, and analytical approach to news. He said the newspaper had adapted to changes in technology and design without compromising its values, adding that it had played a major role in shaping his personality and that its coverage of major national events had assisted governments in nation-building.

Commissioner of Information and Public Relations G. Mukunda Reddy also addressed the gathering, recalling how reading the newspaper helped him prepare for and clear the Group-I examination. He noted that the publication continues to serve as an important information source for candidates preparing for competitive tests, including the UPSC and State public service examinations.

Media Adviser to the Chief Minister Karri Sriram described the publication as an extraordinary institution and highlighted its historical milestones, including the early use of an aircraft to transport newspapers. He also praised its reporting on state initiatives and projects, such as HYDRAA and the Musi rejuvenation project, while Chief Public Relations Officer in the Chief Minister’s Office G. Malsur spoke of his appreciation for its credible reporting.

During the event, the DGP and other dignitaries unveiled a special supplement published by the Hyderabad edition. Resident Editor Telangana Ravi Reddy and General Manager S. D. T. Rao addressed the gathering on journalistic standards, with The Hindu Business Line Resident Editor Richa Mishra, Chief of Bureau Serish Nanisetti, Political Editor R. Ravikanth Reddy, News Editor Dinesh Akki, and Senior General Manager Pittala Srikanth also in attendance.
