Congress Protests at Tank Bund Demanding Withdrawal of FIR Against Rahul Gandhi

Congress leaders and party workers staged a demonstration near the Ambedkar statue at Tank Bund on Tuesday, demanding the immediate withdrawal of an FIR registered against Rahul Gandhi, Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha.

The case against Rahul Gandhi was filed over his remarks regarding a 'shuddhikaran' ritual conducted at a venue in Uttarakhand where Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge had earlier held an event. Protesters gathered in large numbers around the statue island, raising slogans against the BJP-led Central government.

The protest was organised by Khairatabad DCC president Motha Rohit. Party leaders present at the demonstration accused the Central government of adopting double standards, stating that authorities were targeting Rahul Gandhi for speaking out rather than taking action against those who performed the 'shuddhikaran' ritual.

Addressing the gathering at the site, Minister Ponnam Prabhakar stated that the 'shuddhikaran' ritual was an insult to democracy and constitutional values. He condemned the treatment meted out to Kharge and noted that such practices perpetuate caste discrimination and untouchability.

Prabhakar further alleged that the legal action initiated against Rahul Gandhi was an attempt to obstruct his efforts toward social justice, constitutional protection, and equality. He affirmed that the Congress party stands firmly behind Rahul Gandhi and demanded the withdrawal of the case.
