BRS delegation meets Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla over nominated PACS appointments

A delegation from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) met with Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla at Lok Bhavan in Hyderabad on Saturday, May 30, 2026. The opposition leaders raised strong objections over the State government’s reported move to appoint individuals on a nomination basis to various positions within the Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies (PACS) instead of conducting democratic elections.

The delegation was led by the Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Madhusudhana Chary. During the meeting at Lok Bhavan, the BRS leaders submitted a formal representation to the Governor detailing their concerns and alleging that the State government's actions constitute a direct violation of established rules.

Following the meeting, Madhusudhana Chary addressed media persons to explain the delegation's grievances. He charged that the State government is actively conspiring to appoint favored individuals to different positions within the PACS. According to Chary, these unilateral appointments bypass the necessary electoral processes, which he described as highly objectionable and contrary to the law.

Chary provided historical context to the dispute, noting that the PACS Chairpersons were democratically elected in 2020. Their official terms concluded in 2025, after which the State government granted a six-month extension. However, rather than organizing new elections as the extension period ends, the government is now taking active measures to install nominated individuals of its choice.

In their representation, the BRS delegation appealed to the Governor to intervene immediately and direct the State government to halt any further measures regarding these nominated appointments.

According to Chary, Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla assured the delegation that he would address the issue. The Governor stated that, irrespective of the measures already taken by the State government, he would seek a formal legal opinion on the matter and initiate appropriate steps based on that legal guidance.
