Anandbagh Residents Seek HMWSSB Help as Borewells Run Dry

Residents of Anandbagh in Malkajgiri faced an acute water scarcity following a severe depletion of groundwater levels and the drying up of local borewells. The crisis led the Anandbagh Residents Association to approach the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB), urging officials to launch an immediate rainwater harvesting awareness drive in the neighborhood.

The groundwater shortage affected multiple localities within Anandbagh, leaving households struggling to secure sufficient water supplies for their daily drinking and domestic needs. Local residents reported that a lack of rainfall this season caused groundwater levels to plunge, resulting in most local borewells drying up completely.

In response to the situation, the Anandbagh Residents Association approached the HMWSSB to request a house-to-house initiative. The proposed campaign aims to educate, encourage, and assist residents in constructing Rainwater Harvesting (RWH) pits in their individual homes. Association members stated that proactive rainwater harvesting remains the most viable way to recharge depleted aquifers and prevent a complete water crisis in the area.

To raise awareness among community members, the association produced and distributed pamphlets titled 'Hyderabad Facing Growing Groundwater Crisis' throughout Anandbagh. The group also formally submitted representations detailing key concerns and groundwater challenges to both the HMWSSB Managing Director and the Chief Secretary of Telangana.
