AICC Praises Revanth Govt, Flags Concern Over 31 Lakh Uncollectable Voter Forms

The Congress high command reviewed the performance of Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s government and raised concerns over the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls during a meeting at Indira Bhavan in Delhi on Monday.

AICC general secretary K.C. Venugopal led the meeting in the presence of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president B. Mahesh Kumar Goud, and AICC Telangana in-charge Meenakshi Natarajan.

During the review, the party leadership expressed concern over the progress of the SIR exercise in Telangana. With about a week left for the completion of the enumeration phase, nearly 31 lakh forms across the state have been categorised as uncollectable after 74.38 per cent of total forms were digitised. In Hyderabad alone, around 4.21 lakh forms have been classified as uncollectable, where digitisation stands at just over 50 per cent.

These uncollectable forms are classified under the Absent, Shifted, Dead, Duplicate, and Foreign (ASDDF) criteria and are liable to be marked for deletion from the electoral rolls. Acknowledging slackness in the campaign, the AICC directed party leaders, workers, and Booth Level Agents to intensify grassroots efforts to ensure genuine voters, particularly poor citizens, are not excluded.

While raising alarms on voter roll deletions, the high command praised the Telangana government's performance and implementation of welfare schemes since taking office in December 2023. Special mention was given to the Mahalakshmi scheme benefiting more than 30 lakh women daily with free bus travel, the Gruha Jyothi scheme supplying free power up to 200 units to over 50 lakh households monthly, and the free fine rice supply benefiting 3.39 crore people every month. The leadership also noted the Indiramma housing scheme, under which over seven lakh houses are being constructed across the state.

The meeting noted that the government had completed 31 months in July and crossed the halfway mark of its five-year term on June 7. Venugopal observed that Telangana remains among the states where the Congress is organisationally strongest.

The high command also conducted a detailed review of organisational affairs, assessing appointments from the booth to state levels, the performance of District Congress Committees, and the functioning of mandal Congress presidents.

A follow-up review focusing primarily on the SIR exercise will take place at a TPCC Coordination Committee meeting in Delhi on Wednesday. Chief Minister Revanth Reddy is expected to remain in Delhi until Wednesday to attend the meeting alongside Natarajan and committee members.
