Adilabad Airport to Be Built at Rs 5,500 Crore, Says BJP MLA Payal Shankar

HYDERABAD — The approval of a joint-user airport in Adilabad marks a major milestone for the integrated development of north Telangana, BJP MLA Payal Shankar announced during a press conference at the BJP state office in Hyderabad on Monday.

The Rs 5,500-crore infrastructure project will be jointly developed by the Ministry of Defence and the Airports Authority of India (AAI). Shankar described the initiative as the beginning of a new chapter for the development of the backward Adilabad region.

Financing for the project includes a Government Order (GO) issued by the Telangana state government allocating Rs 2,278 crore. The Ministry of Defence will contribute approximately Rs 3,000 crore toward the total cost. Shankar emphasized that the project was realized through coordinated efforts between the Central government and the state government.

Recalling promises made during past election campaigns, Shankar credited high-profile visits by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for bringing national attention to the development requirements of Adilabad. He stated that the erstwhile united Adilabad district had been neglected during the tenure of the previous BRS government, despite possessing rich mineral resources, fertile agricultural land, and a robust cotton market.

Alongside the aviation infrastructure, Shankar revealed plans for the establishment of the state’s second-largest industrial park near Adilabad. A total of 2,200 acres has already been notified for the industrial development, while administrative clearances are currently being fast-tracked for an additional 6,000 acres.

Together, the proposed airport and industrial corridor are expected to turn Adilabad into a national logistics and cargo hub. According to Shankar, this will provide a significant boost to key economic sectors including textiles, agro-processing, and tourism, while creating fresh employment opportunities and promoting skill development among local tribal communities.

Shankar expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Modi, Union Ministers G. Kishan Reddy, Bandi Sanjay Kumar, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, alongside Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy, for supporting the initiative. He added that the foundation stone for the airport project will be laid soon in the presence of the Prime Minister, Union ministers, and the Chief Minister.
